Naxos Castle

The castle of Chora is undoubtedly the most renowned medieval monument of Naxos. It was built under the lead of Venetian conqueror Duke Markos Sanoudos in 1207. The castle has two surviving entrances: Trani Porta (Great Gate) to the north and Paraporti (wicket) to the left and inside the castle you will find many medieval buildings, including the Tower of Glezos which served as a protective shield.
