Located on the north side of the island of Hvar, Star Grad is one of Europe’s oldest towns, believed to be founded in 400BC by the Greeks. This is the perfect place to soak up the atmosphere of the island at a relaxed pace, taking in the beautiful scenery and wandering round the fascinating attractions. The Dominican monastery has a library and museum of archaeological discoveries, while the castle of renowned poet Petar Hektorovic at Tvrdjal is a popular tourist destination. Hvar Town is the busier part of this island, situated along the western coast. At the heart of the town is St Stephen’s Square, where people-watching while you enjoy a refreshing drink is a lovely way to pass a few hours. Visit Hvar Cathedral and the Franciscan monastery for a spot of tranquillity before climbing up to the ancient citadel to enjoy breathtaking views over the harbour. Hvar Town also has a vibrant nightlife. There are plenty of upscale clubs, bars and restaurants to choose from, making this location a favourite with the luxury yacht charters crowd.
