Free Things To Do In Croatia
By Jenny Wilson published on 24 July 2017
They say the best things in life are free but regardless of whether or not that’s accurate, one of our favourite things about Croatia is how accessible and inclusive everything is, which ensures everyone has the chance to see some spectacular sights and fully experience one of the best countries in the world.
Diocletian’s Palace
With the exception of the Cathedral and a small section of the basement, the majority of this ancient wonder is free to explore at your leisure. With a variety of cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques located within the ruins, there are plenty of places that will tempt you to spend money (we recommend sampling some Croatian coffee at one of Split’s cafes!), but the architecture itself is free to appreciate and the atmosphere is simply incredible.
Climb Mount Srd
If you’re ready to stretch your legs, following the footpath up to the top of Mount Srd will take around 90 minutes and give you unbeatable panoramic views of the expansive ocean you will have enjoyed throughout your sailing getaway, as well as the unmistakable architecture of Dubrovnik below. It’s not the easiest walk, so sturdy shoes and plenty of water are musts, and if you don’t fancy the hike up and still want to appreciate the views, there’s a cable car that will whisk you up in just a few minutes!
Admire Croatian Architecture
There are many UNESCO protected heritage sites across Croatia, but a stroll down any side street or through any harbour town will lead you to elegant churches, majestic ancient ruins, and charming stone houses.
Enjoy the Croatian Coastline on Your Sailing Getaway
Croatia’s coastline is among the very best in the whole world, and whether you want to lounge on one of Dubrovnik’s bustling beaches surrounded by some of the very best cafes, bars and arcades, or prefer something a little more tranquil, like one of the Elaphiti Islands’ secluded bays, Croatia is the place to be. The crystal-clear waters are gloriously inviting and there’s nothing better than seeing the sun set across the ocean.
