Idyllic isolation with Croatia boat holidays

By Jenny Wilson published on 31 October 2016

It is one of the dichotomies of travel that we want to find that perfect place to escape from it all but do not want it to have been found by too many others first. Croatia boat holidays give you the freedom to explore the many gems found in the Adriatic and if you really want to find that undiscovered treasure, head to the tiny island of Lastovo.

Situated a little way from Korcula, this island measures just 10km by 5km; however, what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in charm. The relatively remote location ensures that Lastovo is largely free from mass tourism and has just one hotel. Its unspoilt terrain means the entire island has been designated as a nature park, and it is easy to see why. Craggy coastline, thick forests and plentiful vineyards make this a nature-lovers paradise.

Lastovo is ideal for swimming and snorkelling, with bays such as Skrivena Luka and Zaklopatica offering spectacular clear water amid stunning surroundings. To enjoy the amazing views of the Lastovo archipelago, climb to Hum – the highest peak on the island. The largest settlement, Lastovo Town, is a small collection of pretty stone houses where the island’s few residents live; in addition, it features some good restaurants. There is also a pretty church to visit, but the main attraction is simply the opportunity to enjoy the unspoilt appeal of this alluring island paradise.
